AASHTO Safety Summit
October 17 - October 19

Join us for the AASHTO Safety Summit and joint meeting of the Committee on Safety, Council on Active Transportation, and Committee on Planning. This event will bring together state DOT leaders, management, and practitioners, as well as transportation professionals in the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors, to discuss opportunities for expanding incorporation of safety across state department of transportation functional areas and the roles of AASHTO committees in supporting states’ safety efforts.
AASHTO Safety Summit: Safety Throughout the State DOT and Project Life Cycle. The objective of the summit is to identify opportunities to institutionalize explicit consideration of safety throughout state DOT decisions and activities. Through interactive sessions, attendees will help develop an AASHTO action plan that will disseminate current noteworthy practices and prioritize development of additional tools and other resources needed to support an evolution toward a more safety-focused transportation system.
The summit will highlight state examples from planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance phases of projects, with common themes including consideration of all road users; incorporating principles of the safe system approach; performance management; data and analysis; and other common challenges and needs. Poster sessions will highlight innovative thinking in safety across DOT disciplines.
The Joint Meeting of the Committee on Safety, Council on Active Transportation, and Committee on Planning will directly follow the Summit to build on conversations at the Summit and will provide a forum for the three groups to focus in more detail on topics of mutual interest.
With more than 200 participants expected, the summit and joint meeting will be a dynamic and diverse forum. State DOT leaders, AASHTO committee leaders, representatives from USDOT and other partner agencies, consultants and others are invited to join us at this event. Your participation is essential to help ensure a comprehensive discussion of the path forward. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage in productive conversations, explore innovative approaches to positively impact safety performance, and learn more about the integration of safety practices throughout the DOT.
